You have two choices for shipping: Ground and Air... All kids must be prepaid before shipping arrangements
will be made, including any kennel and health certificate prices.
Ground shipping: Ground shipping arrangements are the responsiblity of the purchaser.
An appointment is required to pick up your goats, and a health certificate at your cost may be required by your
state or your shipper (for sure in California- the agriculture stop IS open at the border).
Health certificates for ground travel are good for 10 to 30 days, depending on the state. We need 3 busines days
to 2 weeks of lead time to get a health certificate. If your state requires TB and Brucellosis testing, we need
the 2 week lead time. If it's a 'generic' health cert, then 3 buisiness days is often enough notice. If
I can combine your health cert vet appointment with other shipments I will do that to reduce your health certificate cost
on the farm call portion. 2011 health certs are currently a $60 minimum for a generic for the first
goat. $85 for goats 2 and more on the same health certificate for a generic cert.
If you are shipping with another individual please be sure that we are able to coordinate pickup times and location
with them- we can't jump at a last minute's notice but are more than happy to schedule them in with enough advance notice
to do so. We are very close to I-5 so often can very easily coordinate with shippers that need us to deliver to
I-5 exit 40 in Oregon. Sometimes I may know of or can find out about ground shipping options, however payment
and arrangements with them must be made by you. I reserve the right to refuse to release a kid or goat to a shipper
if I feel the goat would have a reasonable chance of being damaged or sickened during the shipment. Risk of loss,
injury, or illness of goat or kid transfers to the buyer once we release a goat to the shipper. We are no longer
responsible for their care or supervision at that point.
Air Shipping: Kids up to about 47 pounds can be airshipped. Combined weight allowed with the kennel is 70
pounds.
We ship from MFR (Medford Oregon) on weekdays and do not charge for airport delivery to MFR. Most
of the flights can be paid for COD by you via your credit card when you pick them up. You have to ask- the counter or cargo
has to be open when recover them to be able to have the COD option.
Two airlines serve us:
Alaska Airlines (they do ship all over the country) 1-800-225-2752 if you'd like a quote and possible itinerary.
Delta 1-800-352-2746 #6, #1 ships to most locations in the United States.
Their schedules can change every two weeks, so their schedule doesn't work now, it may in the future. Be sure
and get two quotes- the regular live cargo quote and the Dash quote. If you are able to go Dash, Dash
is the better choice- it allows shorter layovers and less time is required to deliver (tender) them to the airport, and
when they allow you to pick them up (recover) can be shortened up to an hour. That often means the goat will be in transit
for at least 2 less hours, and sometimes more if they can move them through the layovers quicker.
We arrange all air shipping and do our best to work with your schedule, but you can call for quotes and potential arrival
times if you are just in a data collecting stage. You will need to know kid weight and kennel size
before you call them.
Up to 2 kids can be shipped together if and only if: they are not more than 20 pounds each at the airport
scale, and they are similar in size. In our herd that often means they need to be shipped by 3 to 5 weeks
of age to make the requirement.
Health certificate are required by the airlines for all air shipments and must be done within 10 days of the
shipment. Health certs need to be prepaid for me to schedule with my vet.
Kennels can be obtained from many online resources and shipped directly here. Contact us for our shipping address.
I will post a link here once I get some more info... BE SURE the kennel is airline approved and that it comes
with the required water and food dishes. Vari-kennel is the brand I work with the most.
Airfares will cost more the longer you wait to ship the kids because larger kennels and more kid weight will increase
your cargo cost. Ideally we like to ship the kids at 4 weeks of age. We will charge board for kids that must stay
here longer than 5 weeks of age after birth, and will charge on already born kids here longer that 2
weeks (but at until 5 weeks of age). For farm pickups we like them to be at least 10 days of age if you are comfortable
with raising young kids.
Airfares:
2014 pricing is around $225 - 250 for kids shipping on the west coast and sometimes adjoining states.
2014 pricing is ending up about 350 to 450 depending on kid weight to the East Coast and Midwest.
To sum it up:
Remember your shipping costs will be the total of:
Your kennel if needed
Your health cerfiticate if needed, including the cost of andy additional bloodwork/tests your state may require.
Your air shipper or ground transport if needed
I hope this answers some of the most commonly answered questions!
